About the Blog

This blog is a diary of my thoughts listening to the complete Dylan discography, more or less in order for the first time. I spent most of my life avoiding becoming a Dylan fan until 2019. I'd hear songs here and there that I liked. I had a greatest hits and three studio records* in my collection for years. But I always thought I'd only be into a handful of songs.

Then in 2019, after several events that could only be described as "fate," I ended up purchasing the
Complete Albums Volume One box set. Shortly thereafter I bought the three studio albums that weren't in it. And I also bought a small notebook to write down my thoughts on the albums...and some of Bob's Heaven's Door Tennessee Bourbon for the ride. The notebook (and whiskey) led to the creation of this blog. (And don't worry. I know there are plenty of live releases and Bootleg Series recordings to think about, too!)

It is my goal to post regular updates on how the listening is going, album to album, song to song. I'm hearing some of this music for the very first time. You're getting reviews from a guy who's almost a complete Dylan novice, taking a crash course at the Doctorate level. I have a million reasons for why it took me so long to get into Dylan. There's a post in that story somewhere. But for the time being, all I know is that I've finally accepted that Bob Dylan is the closest thing Americans will ever have to Shakespeare. It seemed important to write about my first meetings with the Bard.

I hope you enjoy it here and will consider coming back and sharing your thoughts with me.

(* Blonde on Blonde, Blood on the Tracks, and Time Out of Mind, since you're probably wondering.)
